TCL 65 Class 6-Series 4K UHD QLED Dolby Vision HDR Roku Smart TV - 65R625, comments, reviews

My set arrived this morning at 8AM and hasn t been turned off since :) This far I ve watched most of Blue Planet II in 4K (netflix), and Captain Marvel in 4K (vudu) and both were AMAZING. The fish in blue planet were so vivid it felt like you could reach out and touch them, and the coral bloom scene the color was unbelievable. While I don t have a comparison to do side to side, in my opinion, the color quality looks like the Samsung QLEDs at Costco, and MUCH better then the TCL 65r615 they have in stock now too. The UI is snappy and I love the familiar Roku interface that my family has become custom to over the last few years. Setup was a snap, just get connected to wifi, download a firmware update, and off to the racing streaming in a few minutes. The sounds quality actually wasn t too bad just from the sets built-in speakers. I ordered a TCL Alto 7.1 to pair with it, but that won t get here until Tuesday. The fact you can get a system of this quality 1000 for both TV and soundbar is unbelievable. The only negative I can see thus far is the stand. Whomever signed off that that design for the feet needs to be re-evaluated. First, it just looks silly with the feet all the way at the ends, and then to have them chromed out with some funky texture on them? Yuck. Thankfully this TV was replacing an older 1080p set that was wall mounted, so I don t have to look at the sill stands. VESA mounting was a breeze, just don t loose the two adapter screws they provide. My wife has already commented on why the grey silver sides instead of black....

Amazing picture. No banding no overly dark corners. Love this set much better then last years tcl 55R617 series which i also have. Watching aquaman on this set was beautiful and captivating. We had friends over to watch and they were all in awe. The built in dolby atmos sounds good for watching tv shows but your gonna want a subwoofer for movies. Playing mario kart 8 4player was a blast, very vivid picture. Gears of war 5 looks amazing very dark blacks no light bleed or clouding making playing in the dark scary. Also this tv does an amazing job at up scaling it has brought new life into watching old tv shows like deep space nine or voyager. They just look so crisp now.

So far, very happy! Setup was a breeze and the picture quality is great! Roku is a super sleak system that s very well thought out. I am very happy to have their software as the main OS on this TV. A note to gamers: make sure you go into the TV settings and be sure to set the input s HDMI setting to 2.0. By default, it s set to Auto and this does not allow the console to recognize the full HDR capabilities due to some odd handshake issue that s existed in many previous models as well. Once hard set, I received all the HDR features in the games including HDR10. Also I agree strongly with the comments above about the mounting feet. What a poor design. I m also very glad to have this mounted on my wall instead!

Wow, I had the pleasure of seeing the 65 version of this television at a tech show this week and was absolutely blown away by the picture quality. I d argue that it s along the lines of the Samsung Q70 -- it s backlit versus edge-lit (which the Samsung Q60 is), and full array. You cannot go wrong with this price either: there s just no current set on the market that can compete from a price standpoint. TCL has REALLY stepped it up.

- Excellent brightness. This TV at top brightness will actually hurt your eyes in a dark room. So if you have a very bright room, this TV set at a high brightness will be great. - HDR content looks incredible! But you ll probably need to upgrade your Netflix account to the 4K Ultra level to take advantage of it. It s worth it for supported content! - Local dimming works very well. Keep it at medium level for most content, especially HDR. - Off-angle viewing is not bad at all. Unless you re going to be sitting pretty decently off to the side, the picture isn t going to be too distorted. But this absolutely NOT for people who have seating on the edges of the screen. The picture looks absolutely best when viewed within 15-20 degrees off center. - Default motion settings are set 100 WRONG and give EVERYTHING that awful soap-opera effect. It looks AWFUL! Here s how to fix it: 1) Go through each of your devices (Roku allows you to set the video settings for each input individually, which is amazing!) and click the asterisk key on the remote and look for the video settings and Advanced video settings, they are often is separate sections of the menu. 2) Set picture mode to Movie if available 3) Disable Action Smoothing 4) Disable LED Motion Clarity - this depends on the person, but my eyes see flickering with these fake high-refresh rate settings. 5) Disable Dynamic Contrast 6) Test enabling Natural Cinema which typically does a better job of removing artifacts from judder, but won t be to everyone s liking. I prefer it on when available. 7) Enable Game Mode for any consoles 8) Set the Backlight to 100, Brightness to 50, Contrast to 100, and Tint to 0 9) Set Local Contrast to Medium (though play with this for HDR content!) 10) There is a separate brightness setting you choose from 6 levels from Darkest to Brightest. Dark is usually my go-to for non-HDR content. OK, so to be clear, the only real here is that the out-of-box settings are terrible, even though with the right settings this TV is absolutely awesome. The blacks are extremely dark, the brights in HDR are incredible. This TV performs much higher than it s price tag. And honestly most people will have a hard time discerning much difference between this and a MUCH more expensive OLED panel. Unless you re a cinephile, this TV is going to be absolutely amazing. Another useful note: If you re using a non-TCL soundbar, you re going to be best off if it supports HDMI Arc, as it will allow you to control the soundbar volume through the Roku remote. If you re using a non-TCL soundbar and optical is the only connection, you ll have to use a separate remote, or a universal remote. Not a big deal, but can be for some.

I bought the 2018 6-series 4 days before this 2019 version came out. I had gamed on the previous one with my xbox and watched a fair amount of TV on it. I bought the 2019 version and returned the other in hopes that it would be better. The 2019 version is 3x the television. The QLED is no joke, the blacks are super dark and crisp. The picture is incredible. It works great with my xbox one and navigation is simple and works. The TV remote that comes with it feels built much better, not as cheap feeling as the 2018 version. I would for sure buy this TV again. I m very glad I didnt spend the extra money on a Samsung when I really do feel its the same quality, if not better.

I do a lot of research about TVs and specifically purchased this TCL not only for its low prive but for its extremely high quality. I was expecting an outstanding TV and TCL exceeded my expectations with this R625, I cant wait to see how the 8 series will be! Overall Amazing TV esp for only 600! Has all the new tech like Dolby Vision Atmos, HDR10, HLG that all works great! TCL is putting out some of the best TVs right now. This TV is better then almost all big name LED tvs and rivals some OLED tvs which says a whole lot for a 600 55 ! Built in Roku makes everything very convenient and loads in instant speeds most of the time! HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS TV, dont be fooled by the big brands and the way they market their TVs and pricing, this TV is going to be better then any high end LED TV you get with the exception of a few which are triple the price of this TV, and even then its deff not worth paying that much more for minimal difference. In my opinion this is the best OVERALL LED on the market right now!

After reading other reviews regarding damage during shipping. I am happy to say that my TV arrived in perfect condition. This TV is an absolute pleasure to watch. The picture is stunning! Bright, clear and sharp. It upgrades 1080p to near 4K clarity and the viewing angle is super impressive. As far as I am concerened it is the best overall value on the market, bar none. I have been using this TV daily for about three weeks now and I am more and more impressed with it every day! The BIG surprise? THE SOUND QUALITY! I had read many user ratings and reviews on numerous previous models of the TCL. One of the recurring negatives (on the previous models) was that while the sound quality was adequate for everyday viewing, they lacked the richness you would expect for watching movies, concerts, etc.. s not a concern with this one! I was certain that I would need to add a soundbar with a subwoofer and almost ordered one with the TV. But decided to give the TV a whirl without it for a while. While the bass isn t as deep as one would expect from a quality sub. It is definitely deep and solid. The VOLUME that this TV is capable of is INCREDIBLE for an onboard system. At level 30 (out of 100) it matches the full volume of my previous Panasonic and 40 is just TOO loud for most viewing. It leaves me wondering who on earth would ever watch something on this thing with the volume cranked all the way up?! Even when I took the volume up to 70 (just to see what it would do) there were no signs of distortion, lose rattles, etc.. The sound remained tight and crisp at levels that would definitely expose flaws in lesser quality systems. This is my first experience with ROKU and I think its a blast. There is an almost endless supply of free and low-cost programming available. I had never even heard of TCL until I started researching brands, about a month before making my final decision. I am glad that I took this particular leap of faith and I m loving it! If you are considering 700 - brand name units, you owe to yourself to include this TV in the running. I think you ll agree... It s the best bang for the buck out there.

ve been waiting for this TV since CES 2019. I usually like to go for the higher end of things but was intrigued by such glowing reviews of the previous model R617. In most reviews, I learned that this TV beat TVs twice its price. Until this 65R625, I was watching TV on a 13-year-old Samsung 40 inch so I obviously didn t need the best of 2019. Long story short, I received this TV and have fallen in love with it. It s color gamut is amazing, the black levels are deep, and the Roku OS could not be easier. The TCL ARC-CEC controls my receiver so all I have to do is walk up and press the tiny power button on the simple Roku remote and all of the devices go on. It upscales decently well. Screen uniformity is as good as you can get on LED. The motion is generally fine for 24p content given the TV s ability to transition from 60hz to 48hz using the Natural Cinema feature. I m just generally floored. Sure, I could have tried out OLED or a top tier Samsung for 3x the price, but man has TCL packed some serious value in this thing. I m so happy I bought this. Highly recommended. Try not to weigh too much value into the reviews that talk about poor shipping. If you focus on the product, this is a 5 star product.
