So many good things to say about this tv. The quality is great, the apps are fantastic, great for cord cutters with free tv app options. The sound is crisp and clear. Super sturdy legs. My wife catches me starring at the tv legs, it s gotten me in trouble, but she does like the tv, and so does her boyfriend Ronnie. It s a long story.

A few things to know about me: I have a very high standard for quality, and I m extremely blunt and critical. So the fact I m giving this TV a 5 5 the day after trying it out means a lot. I usually wait a month or two - but I ve seen enough! My biggest hesitation in buying a television over a projector was the fact they all come with bloated apps, malware, and sell your data to companies. Some of the worst examples of this have manufacturers tracking everything you re watching and data going through your home network. Sony gets an A here because in the install process they let you opt out. Sony has always been very good about privacy implications, which is the only reason I even bought this TV. Everyone else is sneaky about forcing you to agree to tracking. USER INTERFACE - Performance My second biggest concern with getting a TV was that I ve always seen these user interfaces lag. I hate lag, no one likes lag, it makes you feel frustrated. The apps that I saw my friends use on their devices were slow, sometimes taking multiple seconds just to show basic information. The processor in this TV is crazy. I ve not only never seen lag, but the TV remembers what you were last doing in apps so you can easily swap between apps. Truly unbelievable they achieve this without lag, this television often feels more like a computer. USER INTERFACE - User Experience ve been developing user interfaces for 10 years now. I ve seen a lot of horrible interfaces. This though.. this is one of the absolute best. Your dashboard entirely customizable with apps you want to use. The dashboard is great at showing you content from each app that you want to see without having to dig for it. As an example, the news app shows latest news that s relevant. Or the music app shows your recently played playlists. Amazing. The UI is great, but what is more amazing is that each app has its own well-designed interface. Truly the individual apps for Netflix, Google Music, and others are even better than the companies that made those apps have developed. I would take Sony s app interfaces over the others any day. So good. s hard to believe Sony made such a killer UI for its products and the products of other companies, and yet, they did. ANDROID OS ve always been an android guy. Naturally this TV integrates with my entire ecosystem of Android and Google products. You get deep integration with the Google Assistant, all the Google products, and if you have an android phone you can easily pair cast it. And without hassle! I was very impressed with how simple everything I wanted to do was. iPhone users also get Air Play and other goodies too. SOUND QUALITY If you care about sound quality you re going to always skip the tv speaker and use your own hardware. That s the truth here too, but the default sound quality is above average. Very good lows, highs, and hearing conversations in noisy moments is well done. PICTURE QUALITY As another review said, the tv gravitates towards a darker picture. I had no trouble modifying this, and the settings to quickly do this from one moment to another is extremely simple. Otherwise, this has been my first 4k tv so I can t give a great comparison, but I ll say the opening sequence had my mouth dropped :) APP STORE This is just a notice that you can (and should!) install more apps for your tv. If you want to add apps in the Play store that Sony doesn t offer you can them. I love that advanced users have this option! The App store Sony gives access to by default is also extremely good, with plenty of apps for all uses cases, even techie users who might want to do crazy things like SSH into their device or run a file server. This unit nailed every single thing I was weary of, and over-delivered everywhere else. I would buy this device again in a heartbeat. Keep it up Sony, you truly are a wonderful manufacturer.

I can t tell if it s on purpose or not but Sony slaps the bluetooth logo on the box and then neglects to make it clear that it does not support bluetooth headphones (only remotes and controllers). I had to buy an extra adapter for bluetooth audio.

We are replacing a gen 2 Sony 40 XBR LCD tv from about 15 years ago that is edge lit by florescent lights. This new 43 LED LCD has phenomenal color, but it is much darker than our 15 year old florescent LCD...even on custom picture, brightness turned up, and automatic dimming turned off. If it had the ability to be as bright at the 15 year old model, I would give it 5 stars. UPDATE: Feb 25, 2020: We ve been able to get it brighter by reducing the Black Level settings. Now we are having a picture jumping or stutter problem with fast camera cut scenes, like on Food Network Diner, Drive Ins, Dives . I ve disabled both of the motion smoothing features and it still is happening. Not 100 sure we are keeping it. UPDATE: March 7, 2020: I ve been able to solve the majority of the problems with the picture being too dark. We were still having issues with picture jumping or stutter , so I reached out to a high-end a v store in the area. He said it s a great tv and we should buy new HDMI 2.1 cables, so I bought an 8K HDMI 2.1 Ultra High Speed 48Gbps on Amazon ( 19.99). It has helped but not solved the picture stuttering completely. I have turned off all the motion smoothing settings and it doesn t make it any different. The a v store is now suggesting that it s the quality (or lack of) from our cable tv provider (Comcast Xfinity). 4K HDR10 content on Amazon Prime and Netflix does not seem to have the stutter issue.

I live in a very remote rural area where we have no public utilities or over-the-air television signals. I could buy into satellite television but it happens that I have good 4G cellular signal on my property so I get all of my television and entertainment via Internet streaming. When I read the specifications on this Sony X800H 43 Inch TV, I got all excited because it supports Apple s proprietary AirPlay protocol. All of my computers and mobile devices are Apple. Unfortunately, all of them are five years or older. The television supports only the latest AirPlay 2, making my older Apple devices with first generation AirPlay incompatible. Oh well, I ll eventually upgrade my devices to take advantage of wireless streaming. Until then, I can still connect my laptop to the television via HDMI to watch iTunes movies for now. Speaking of HDMI, this Sony X800H has four HDMI ports. If only one is plugged in, it will be automatically selected when the set is turned on. If more than one is plugged in, then you can select which one will be used. Video quality via HDMI is vivid with impressive color depth. An analog component video input as well as an RF (over-the air or cable) connector input is also supported. If you have a preference as to which HDMI input is selected when you press the button on the remote, you can set it up in the television s settings. The X800H excels at Internet streaming with direct support for my favorite streaming service - Amazon Prime Videos (see my photos). Most other major on-line streaming venues are also supported. The television s WiFi connection is easily configured for direct Internet access for streaming and other content. Internet streaming is also sharp and vivid (may vary with content providers and your Internet bandwidth). Because the underlying OS powering this TV is Android, you have options to download additional applications from Google Play to expand the TV s media and external device capabilities. I found that the USB thumb drive support is excellent. I can copy videos and photos to my 128 GB USB drives and view them with very high quality. So far, it has played M4V, MP4, and MOV video files flawlessly. It will not play DRM (Digital Rights Management) encoded video files. This is not a fault of the television but rather it s how DRM works - you can t play it on a display it is not authorized to play on. There are two USB ports. If you have two USB thumb drives plugged in, it will recognize both and offer you the option to play content on either thumb drive. Thus, with both USB thumb drives, I can play up to 512 GB of content via my USB drives. That works out to storing around 250 full length movies. I played some very high quality 4K video on the TV. It was quite impressive. The colors are rich and well saturated, adding to the overall vividness of the image. The image is bright and sharp. I see very little artifacting on gradients, indicating a good color luminance depth. Of course, you re going to see a lot artifacting (blocking and banding) with lower resolution videos due to lossy compression. It s not the TV causing it. The HDR (High Dynamic Range) capability combined with Motionflow XR frame interpolation produce what I might call an immersive image with a perceived frame rate of 240 (actual frame rate is 60) per Sony s explanation, which results in less motion blur and jitter on fast moving scenes. I test played a few old videos from my USB drive. The television handles the older interlaced video content fairly well without noticeable jitter and combing. Deinterlacing is never a perfect process. That the television does it fairly well is noteworthy for this price range. The sound quality is fairly decent. You re not going to hear deep thundering bass that will rattle the windows but you will hear enough bass that it has an overall decent sound. If you want to rattle the windows, then the television has an optical audio output to direct the sound portion of video content to a high end sound system. The remote control is well laid out and responsive. It supports voice commands, which I found to be quite accurate at interpreting my voice. You can sign into Google Assistant to expand the voice capabilities of the remote. I can use the remote to interact with the television from a good distance. If you have an all-in-one IR remote or your installation is unique in some way that requires a different location of the remote sensor, the television does support an IR remote jack. The remote IR sensor kit must be purchased separately. Finally, the X800H is a power miser. Drawing only 97 Watts, its power demand isn t much more than my laptop, which draws 80 Watts. Living off-grid in a solar powered home, efficiency is of great importance to me. This television earns five stars in efficiency from me. Overall, this Sony X800H 43 inch television gets high marks from me. It is feature rich with well thought out Internet streaming support, numerous methods of content input, vivid color, excellent contrast, brightness, and sharp definition. I m very pleased with it.

First off, I absolutely adore and recommend this TV! As someone who is always connected to their laptop, I can have every single app on this TV without having to go to other devices. FIRST IMPRESSION.. the Remote. It is enormous! It is the largest remote that I have ever used, long, and for no reason! I like the idea of the dial for the main control buttons, but the other remote functions do not really make sense when it comes to the placement of the remote. When it s dark, it doesn t glow at all and I cannot find any buttons! SYSTEM... Navigations of menus is pretty simple, it is very straightforward and I like that the apps are the main focus when starting up the TV. If I drill down on Netflix for example, it is very easy to use, just like any other TV that I have used. The TV is good to go right out of the box, I didn t need to change any settings immediately. PICTURE QUALITY.. the 4K video quality is really good, pretty much keeps up with any other 4K video that I have seen in retail stores. Colors have a crisp detail, very bright and lifelike. 4 video settings for viewing, custom, cinema, standard, vivid . There is a light sensor that dims the picture automatically, that come in really useful for TV shows. The light dimmer is really good compared to some of my other TVs in that it just turns down the backlight without compromising detail or brightness. Motionflow XR is really nice, with the other Bravia TVs that I have had in the past it honestly is just as good, crisp, clean and without blurring! Absolutely love it! SOUND... That Dolby is kicking! I am usually someone that uses a sound bar for living room use, but being in my bedroom I can keep it on 10-20 easily. Playing Spotify apps the bass is there, recognizable but not sound bar quality. I would recommend using a sound bar if you are going to be using this for music! ALEXA... This was one of the first things that I setup when I got the TV. Honestly, this is a game changer! I have wanted a TV with this technology built in for the longest and I am truly impressed with the integration. I am blown away with the voice recognition is amazing, it has not bugged out or failed me once yet after a weeks worth of using every! So far it has worked with every single app, and all built in menus. RING... the ring integration is a great idea that I absolutely love! Truthfully, the Ring app for me was a bit laggy. The TV can pull up the app quickly with Alexa, but my iPhone is still faster when viewing video. ANDROID... This TV is advertised as being able to use both google and Apple TV functions. I feel jebaited because the specs on the website say that it has both Android and apple integration. Coming from using a 2020 samsung with similar specs, I was expecting the same quality. While connected to the internet, the Apple Airplay app shows up on my phone to connect, but connection needs to be stronger. Mirroring airplay connection runs smoothly. You can install apple airplay and HomeKit on the system menus. The google system and google casting is the fastest way to cast videos to the TV. The Apple App works for casting and watching Apple TV shows, but is not as responsive as I would hope. Overall the TV is android. OVERALL.. For the price of this TV, you are honestly getting lots of features that bring this into year 2020! I think if Sony works on the bugs that this TV would be one of the best affordable 4K TV s on the market for 2020. Love all the features and it really has not disappointed. Overall, the amount of great features on this TV overshadow the small issues, and I would 100 recommend this TV all day!

I prefer Apple Products. I ve had Samsung and LG flat screens but had to have separate devices to integrate my Apple devices with the TC. This TV allows Airplay which gets me what I want. Share pictures with those around me easily over the TV without a bunch of extra devices. The remote is difficult and it seems Google has the upper hand on the buttons but that s not a big deal. Learned how to use voice commands to go straight to Amazon Prime Video. I use both Netflix and Amazon Prime and both perform so much better than they were on my LG device. My LG 55 TV would not keep a consistent connection to my WiFi. The Sony hasn t dropped it yet. Love the picture and the size. Opted out of a sound bar for now. Tried my LG sound bar with the Sony but it didn t work very well. I looked closely at Vizio, Sony, LG and Samsung prior to making this decision. Both at Amazon ratings and on several other web sites. Do your homework to make sure you get what you want!

Our experience with the Sony X800H the ills of its IPS panel leaves us with some clear impressions: First, and most important, this model does not display well in a dark room and is a poor choice for night time movie, Netflix or DVD watching. There is significant light bleed through when the original intent is to show a black screen with only a logo, title, screen credit and the like. Dark scenes are not Film Noir with this set as the bleed through spoils the dark areas particularly in the lower areas corners. Frustrating is that when you watch a series, each between scene change displays a partially washed out screen when the intent was to show a momentary black screen. We could not shake the disappointment as we were used to our Sony X900F 49 inch TV which preserves, for the most part, what the original show is trying to display. In fairness, read on. The TV s performance in a well lit or daytime setting is admirable. Very bright, clear and easy to enjoy watching cable content. Some of this enjoyment disappears if we put on a DVD or switch to Netflix. This is the perfect set for an automobile dealer to use in a customer waiting room or for a store to use as a demo unit. Again, watching cable news or main channel programming, the set was enjoyable to view. The set we received was clearly a repacked unit and the box showed much wear tear. The bagged set was in disarray and the accessories, paperwork, etc. were casually thrown in. Still, we have enough faith in Sony not to let this top us from trying the set and we gave it our best shot. We wall mounted intending to keep it and powered it up without a problem. Noted was a much improved navigating response time and a welcomed quick opt out of the apps which we avoid. We do use Netflix and hope to see Britbox soon but that is all. The power up, channel change, function change times are the best we have ever seen. On the side however are two points that disappoint us: first, while the TV detects and automatically changes to a powered up DVD player, the TV WILL NOT change back to the cable box. There is an advertised setting for this be we could not find it. Secondly, the new simplified remote omits the important DVD functions such as eject, chapter change, etc. We solved this by using our X900F remote and it worked well but we should not have had to do this. In Summary: the poor black level performance, absense of local backlight dimming, and excessive bleed through were the game changers. We love cinema and any TV worth its salt must display the classsic movies with 35mm quality. Despite the loss of time, the additional work and the inconvenience of dealing with UPS s unreliable pick up service, we are returning the set and will study the VA panels and the QLED options. We hope these comments will help someone else in selecting their set. Cheers.

We really like everything about this TV. It was very easy to put together. We are both in our 70 s and it was fun putting the legs on and putting it in place. The hook up was easy, the HDMI ports were clearly marked. We use Comcast, I was able to follow the setup without calling Comcast. (Yay for Me) Needless to say we LIKE this Sony

This is my 3rd Sony TV that I have purchased the past 5 years for different rooms. This model has the best picture compared to the others I have which are also 4k. Regarding bluetooth, there are people stating it does not have bluetooth however it does have bluetooth. Sony has it stated on the specs however the bluetooth from out of the box is not for headphones. In order to get bluetooth headphones to work, you have to download a bluetooth scanner app from the Google Play Store. I downloaded the very first one that showed up on the list. Once you get it installed, it will pair up with your headphones instantly. Over than that, this TV has been a good buy.
