Just look at my pic I posted to see how happy my 5 year old grandson was Christmas morning!
The monster truck crawls over everything! LOL

I was not expecting a lot for the price I was paying($21.66 at the time). This R/C has got to be one of the best values going in its market. Worth double the price I paid. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon and this rates near the top of my best buys. I bought 3 of these at Christmas, one for me(52 yrs old) and 2 for potential son in laws(both in mid 20's). Just something fun for Christmas day I thought. The ad said colors may vary and I received 2 red cars and one blue, so that was great. All 3 cars have been run multiple times without any issues so far. They climb like crazy, much better than I expected. Each wheel has independent suspension. No throttle/speed control. You are either going full speed or stopped, same for both forward and reverse, but for the price I can't complain too much. These cars aren't really fast but they're meant for climbing and obstacle courses so to me the speed seems correct. We have a habit of turning obstacle course racing into crash derbies trying to flip each other over. There's a lot of running into each other and even rolling over each other. Lots of abuse but they're still going strong. They all ran on regular Kirkland batteries for about 45 minutes before a noticeable power drop. We get a little longer out of the rechargeable batteries. I recommend Amazon Basics rechargeable batteries. 6 stars for these cars if I could. Highly recommended! Amazon was great to buy from as usual...

This gets a five star for being a great toy. It may look like a hobby version of the 200$ variety, but it just isn't and should not even be rated against those RC cars. The fact is, this is impressive if you remember what it is. We bought this for my son's 6th birthday. He loves it. He is able to use it, with some difficulty...there is a learning curve. But he really enjoys running into things. It is a very apt crawler. It will motor through 3 inch high, thick grass. It will hop a curb. It will roll over shoes and sticks and makes mincemeat out of mulch. It's pretty loud and is really at its best outside. I bought this along with a charger and some rechargeable batteries. That was a GREAT decision. The toy does burn through the AA batteries quite quickly. You can probably use conventional AAA's for the controller, but while you could use regular alkaline for the vehicle, you'll really be sorry because you'll find yourself wanting to replace the batteries once they are half discharged. As the batteries discharge, the vehicle slows down and gets weaker, having a second set to swap out at that point, rather than waiting until the first set is already totally spent makes the rechargeables essential. The suspension is also ingenious. It is much more bouncy and nimble than others we looked at in the toy store. Another great feature is the remote. It is very well suited to kids hands. It's maybe half the size of the hobby shop variety.

So far so good! I'm impressed by it's ability to drive over dirt, grass, and large bumps. My 5 year old will pile up toys and blankets and climb all over it.

The battery life is quite impressive with some quality NiMH rechargables (like Sanyo Eneloops), we get over an hour of play time.

The antenna tubes probably won't last long the way my boys play with it, but those should be easy to replace. Also, the body has cracked a bit, but it's played with pretty hard.

For the price, I can't imagine it being much better, though I wish it had digital proportional steering and accelleration, but in this price range that's a more of a dream.

For 35$ a great buy. I purchased two for my 3 and 5 year olds. They are simple to drive. Both of them picked it up quick. Months after Christmas they are still running great. They have good tourque, climbing small hills, rocks, and roots through the woods. They flip constantly when my boys use them and have had relatively no issues. I've had to strip and solder the entennas back on to the remotes, but those are minor things. Suggestions:

1) Make sure not to lose the small antenna shieldings that come with the car. They are useful for antenna durability on both the cars and the remotes.
2) Purchase rechargeable AA batteries. They burn through them pretty quick. 6 AA's to run the cars. The remotes are 2 AAA's, but those last a while.

The Rock Crawler Extreme is FANTASTIC. My 7 year-old LOVES it. I chose this one from a list of highly-rated cars because it's max speed isn't too fast for a kid to handle. It can also drive over obstacles that I wouldn't have thought were possible! My kids have a great time building new obstacles for it with pillows and toys and seeing what it can get over. I love it too!

I purchased this car after returning some other disappointing ones - either the batteries would die in minutes, or it was too hard to drive.

Cons:
- It didn't come in the actual package, just in a plain brown box, so it wasn't AS exciting to open on Christmas morning, but obviously not important for using the car.
- The little grey clips on the top of the car pop off somewhat easily. It does come with extras though, which is great
- We initially didn't notice that there were hard "tubes" to run the antennas for the car and remote through. So we were trying to tie the antenna up in weird ways so it wouldn't drive over its own antenna. The antenna on the remote also got ripped off, so we had to open up the remote and reattach the electrical. Then I noticed in an online video that the tubes need to be placed over the antennas, so we found them in the packaging (luckily we still had it) and got it all sorted out.
- No instructions came with the car (probably would have helped with the antenna issue above)

Pros:
- It is a climbing machine! Which makes it super fun for kids to play with. If it can't make it over something you can easily keep going forward/reverse and it will often get over really hard obstacles!
- Just the right speed for kids - not so fast that it's out of control and crashing into walls
- The wheels are really soft and stick out past the front and rear of the car so when it does crash into walls - no damage to walls
- Batteries last a really long time (6 AAs in car, 2 AAAs in remote)

These things are just awesome for kids. I mean of course there are better RC cars out there for a higher price point, but for $40, money well spent. Ours had certainly been durable enough, having subjected it to steep mountain slopes, rammed it countless times into rocks, run it through grass, dirt, rocks, everything but snow. Tenacious little crawler and perfect speed for kids. The only drawback, aside from battery drain (we just got rechargeables which help mitigate this issue) is limited (or no) parts replacement through Maisto. We lost our controller at some point over the last year, and ended up buying a whole new unit since we couldn't find a replacement controller anywhere online. Now we have two cars, one controller. Spare parts for the future..

This crawler is a beast. It crawls over fairly large rocks and it handles steep hills (I would say 50-60 dgr hills) pretty well. It is also pretty good in the snow and on ice. It is pretty good on sand as well, but it gets in the motors. Once it went into an unassumingly deep and huge puddle and it was almost submerged but to my surprise it started to FLOAT!! It didn't work after that but I let it dry out for a couple days and voila it worked. This beast won't die. The tires are pretty good and the suspension travel is just fabulous. My only gripes are it uses a lot of batteries fairly quickly (the 6 AA's only last about 20 min tops) and it is loud. Other than that great truck for a great price. It even looks cool! Definitely would buy this again. I have beat the crap out of it and it still goes strong.

Shipping was super fast and my son loved the crawler when he opened it. All we had to do was put batteries in the remote and truck and my son was off terrorizing the dog. The crawler has pretty good torque, but not much speed, which is good for a crawler and it keeps the kids from breaking it when they run it into objects. The one issue that we had was that the range was really poor in the house, the crawler would start glitching and stop moving when my son would get about 6' from it. The range was much better outside and my son could drive it at least 50' away. The build quality was pretty good and it looks exactly like the picture. My son and myself were very pleased with the crawler and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive R/C Crawler.

I was looking for an RC car that would be easy to operate, run for a decent amount of time and most importantly, be able to handle our irregular sidewalks and go on grass for my 6yr old. Well I'm glad I bought this. It's great. I was pleasantly surprised how long it ran before needing new batteries, although I will swtich to rechargeables now. I think it lasted a solid day & a half's worth, which might seem short but it was many runs. And since it is battery operated, no time wasted to charge and definitely way longer playing time than what a normal charge will allow. It's easy & straightforward to use the controller. And IT DOES GO OFF ROAD! Went on grass, uneven sidewalks, dirt, carpet, sand at a beach, up pillows and various inclines, even went down stairs (they were low rise with wide tread).

Downsides or at least Considerations:
Not fast. Note the title of the product - it says "Crawler", not "Racer". It's not slow but if my son ran, he could outrun it. But he would have to jog a little to keep up with it.
There is no on/off switch for the control. Maybe it's not needed? There is an on/off switch on car.
It's a little loud with an annoying buzzing sound. Not super loud - just annoying if the car is running in the same room you are and you're trying to talk to someone.
It can't handle tall grass, like several inches long.
Not meant for water, I think, so we avoided going through puddles and wet grass.

FYI: At the time of order, I paid $25 on Amazon. A few days later (after Christmas) I see it's now over $40 but the truck/buggy version is $27.
