I have a cheap grill that that I love, but it lacks an auto-igniter. These lighters are perfect for getting the grill lit. No need to get your lighter close to the site of ignition with these -- these lighters keep you nice and far away from the fire when it goes POOF.

Note that one of these has an articulating flame arm and the other is fixed. Both work in just the same way: just press the safety button on the top of the unit, then depress the trigger. In my experience, they light every time and last long than I know, because I'm always losing them. There are no bells and whistles on these lighters -- no built-in LED light or radio or anything fancy -- just a solid long-arm lighter. That's why I think they're 5-stars all the way.

This product was NOT given to me as part of any promotion. I bought it after doing some comparison shopping and this review is entirely the result of my own opinions and use of the product.

The Bic designers are geniuses because all of their lighters, including these, are classics. These multi-purpose lighters make all the other multipurpose lighters I've tried look absolutely primitive. These are the only lighters with a gentle trigger pull that almost always light the first time with a nice healthy flame.

I'm approaching age 70 and have rheumatoid arthritis and so I appreciate being able to use these lighters without being forced to use both hands to squeeze the trigger, but the BEST part is the ease with which the child proofing can be removed. It is quite literally impossible for me to operate ANY of these type of lighters while simultaneously pressing or squeezing a second "child-proof" lever of some sort, and so it is essential that I be able to defeat the child proofing on these things. In fact I've become an expert on removing the child proofing on most things -- especially prescription bottles..., but I digress.

Some of the other lighters I've tried have child proofing that is essentially impossible to remove without destroying the entire unit, but the child proofing on these wonderful BIC lighters is simply a matter of prying the "child-proof" lever off the top and discarding it. It takes a little practice, but a nice sharp whack in the right place with a 1/4" wood chisel snaps the child proof lever right off so I can use this device. With the severity of my arthritis, it is quite impossible for me to simultaneously depress the child-proof lever and simultaneously pull the trigger. I'm on chemotherapy in addition to my arthritis, and the swivel neck-type lighter makes it much easier to light my Bong which I use to help fight off the severe nausea and vomiting the chemotherapy causes. My only wish would be to be able to purchase the swivel neck lighters by themselves without the straight necked lighters. Even the feel of these lighters in the hand is much more natural and easy to grip than all the other lighters I've tried. These BIC multipurpose lighters are head and shoulders above all others.

These are great. I love having them instead of matches or a cigarette lighter:

Good reach for larger/deeper candles
Seems to last a long time (been about 2-3 weeks of heavy use and it's still going)

It's impossible to use with one hand. You have to hold the button on the bottom for a few seconds (the one I'm holding with my index) and then the one of the top to get the flame. The photo is just for demonstration, this is a two hand operation.

This is definitely a lighter and created fire nicely. I will say that I see a lot of comments about how these are hard for lady thumbs to ignite (Their words, not mine). I must disagree, as my lady thumbs were quite capable of lighting both units, so if you're a lady who was worried about buying these- don't worry, you can handle it.

The BIC Multi-Purpose Lighter is my go-to lighter, which I pretty much only use for lighting candles. If I had one negative to report, it's that you have no adjustment to control the flame size. When new, the flame shoots out about 2 inches and I've blackened the inside of glass candle jars several times when lighting them. After about 15-20 uses, as the fuel inside depletes, the flame seems to become a little less like a torch. As to the lighter style, I'm 100% pleased with it. There's a little hook on the end so you can hang it up, the handle/grip is comfortable, and the clicking mechanism is safe, reliable and easy to use. I'm taking away one star for the lack of a flame control switch, but otherwise, this is a great product.

For the price it doesn't get any better. These are honestly HUGE compared to other models (so im assuming more fluid) and i have no trouble using the safety buttons. I admit i have been using this grill style lighter for everything my whole life. My mom and myself hate the nuisance of fire that kindles near your fingers or matches that burn down or blow out. I use these for candles mostly. Works great to get down into a tall candle jar that's been burned close to the bottom. Other kinds have an easier top button though.

For anyone who is confused by these 2 button designs...put your thumb on the top button ridges and press it down hard and hold it there then use your index finger on the bottom trigger. You may need to click the bottom trigger a few times. You will near a snap sound and it will light.

This has a safety feature in that you must hold a button and then press the trigger. its actually a little hard for me and my arthritis fingers as the barrel is pretty long. Id recommend it but Ill probably look for a different model, smaller for my cranky fingers. thankful that for the price there were two. Online some sellers go bonkers jacking up prices so make sure you look around before settling on a seller. Anything you buy should be comparable to what you would pay in the store. Slightly more is acceptable. Price gouging is not. When I purchased the price was comparable.

The item arrived promptly and well packaged. I was actually surprised that you could bend and twist one of them which makes it so much easier to use. The other lighter is ok. Overall, the lighters are easy to use and I like the design of the one that you could twist.

I bought these for our gas stove, the ignighter doesn't always work, but I put one by the fireplace too. WOW!! I do not know why we never thought of it before!! So much better than matches!

Ordered this for home candle lighting and one for the emergency kit. Took a long time to arrive. Also, they did not come in the packaging in the picture. They came out of the packaging and taped together with clear tape. One is a stiff neck and one is a bendy neck. They both appear brand new and work just fine so no issue here.
