Last year engineers from Laboratory of intellectual systems of the Ecole polytechnique federale de Lausanne (EPFL) is created have submitted the concept of the flying drone at which masts with engines could be disconnected from the case at blow. And automatically to fasten back, reducing risks of damages at accidents. Now they have gone further and have created a design which breaks differently, keeping properties of rigidity and flexibility at the same time.

modern robotics is faced by one tricky task. Cars with the rigid case strong, but too heavy and at an overload it is irreversible break. And designs with flexible base survive, but aren't capable to bear freight and to use tools. It seems, the Swiss engineers have managed to find a key to the solution of this task – the project manager, Stephano Minchev, argues on the system of controlled rigidity.
