NASA financed construction in a terrestrial orbit of the first space shipyard



NASA signed the contract with the Californian company Made In Space for the sum of 73.3 million dollars for start of the demonstration Archinaut One spaceship which will make and collect components of satellites directly in an orbit.

Still, despite the growing power of carrier rockets, their opportunities for removal in space of a payload are still very limited.

The technology of the three-dimensional press will help to solve this problem: NASA suggests to print necessary details and to assemble from them spacecrafts directly in an orbit.

In fact, it is about the satellite printer.

Start of Achinaut One is planned for 2022-23 from the starting Rocket Lab Electron complex located in New Zealand.

After removal into a low orbit, Achinaut One will start for printing two 10-meter wings for solar panels.

Further they will be able to develop energy in 5 times more, than the ready analogs delivered from Earth.

In case of success NASA will be able to apply this technology during creation of antennas of communication, large space telescopes and constructions of "transshipment" space base to Moon and Martian missions.
