I compared the Hamilton Beach Flex Brew with the Keurig K575 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Coffee Maker with 12 oz Brew Size and Hot Water on Demand, Platinum and the Knox Compact Travel Size K-Cup Coffee Brewer.

Setup time: 10 minutes. The Hamilton Beach is fairly easy to setup at 10 minutes with getting familiar with the parts and where they go and running a cup of water through it to clean it. The Hamilton Beach has a removeable tray that also holds the coffee grounds option (brown cup in the pictures) if you want that option. It is very nice that the reusable filter can be stored in the tray so you won't lose it. You can add a maximum of 14 ounces of water to the reservoir and there is a nice little water level indicator on the side (see pic).

The Knox is the smallest and most portable and is ready to go out of the box. You need to run one cup of water through it and then you can start making coffee. The Keurig is the biggest and most complicated and takes the longest to set up. Knox wins!

Ease of Use: The Hamilton Beach is very easy to use. Add a K cup to and close the lid. Add water to the back and press the button and it makes coffee. There are no options for timer or any other types of coffee. You can brew regular coffee grounds with the included brown filter with metal screen. If you notice any residue in the coffee with the grounds they recommend adding a paper filter. I didn't see any weird residue after two cups. I would say the Knox is the easiest to use overall but the Hamilton is a close second.
Remove the base and you can brew travel mug size coffee containers unlike the Knox which can only do a standard size cup.

BREW TIME for coffee (without warm up time):

Knox coffee brewer : 2 minutes 53 seconds.

Hamilton Beach coffee maker: 2 minutes 41 seconds.

Keurig 2.0 : Preheat time 1 minute 28 seconds for a total brew time of 2 minutes 21 seconds. Keurig wins!!!

The Knox is the slowest but the quietest of the three. The Hamilton Beach is the loudest coffee maker.

TASTE TEST: Tested all three with the same Starbucks K-Cup. All three were hot and tasted exactly the same. NO difference in temperature. No strange residue or aftertaste. The Knox and Hamilton Beach do a great job against the more fancy Keurig 2.0. TIE!

CLEANUP: The Hamilton Beach is fairly easy to clean. The filter holder and K cup holder are removable and washable. Much easier to clean than the Keurig but not as easy as the Knox.

The Hamilton Beach is an excellent budget option for using K cups as well as traditional coffee grounds. The coffee tastes exactly the same as the much more expensive Keurig K575 Single Serve Programmable K-Cup Coffee Maker with 12 oz Brew Size and Hot Water on Demand, Platinum. The brew time is close enough that it doesn't make any difference and both the Hamilton Beach and Keurig can brew travel mug size cups. The Knox is best for portability but the Hamilton is better as a home base coffee maker that you don't need to travel with if space isn't really a concern. The Keurig is the best for all the functions and speed of brewing.

I never wanted a K-cup coffee maker. When I saw this one I was intrigued. The size is smaller and it is flexible for making my favorite coffee grounds or using the K-cups. It came quickly and was packaged very well. I LOVE it. I can use my own favorite coffee grounds or I can use a K-cup. One feature I like is that you empty the reservoir each time you brew. The coffee grounds insert comes with the appliance as does the K-cup insert. Can't say enough good things about this produce!

I really love single serve coffee pots. The coffee drinkers in my household have different schedules so it just makes more sense to brew one cup at a time. I have a large Keurig brewing system, but it was taking up precious counter space in my kitchen. So, I started looking into smaller single serve coffee pots. This brewing system is a great option for people who don't want to waste coffee. One of the things I really like about this type of set-up is that there is very little assembly required. In less than five minutes you can have this set-up and start brewing your favorite drink.

You can use standard mugs and travel mugs with this system. There is a raised drip tray that is removeable and you can take off the platform and be able to use a taller mug or travel cup. I like that this system was designed to work with K-Cups, but also comes with an adapter for you to use your own coffee grounds. The system is easy to use and takes up very little counter space.

This new design is fantastic. Coffee doesn't get into the water and the coffee is hotter. I had 3 of the last design but it kept getting coffee in the water and wasn't hot. I LOVE THIS NEW DESIGN!!!! Yum coffee.

The convenience of Keurig K cup coffee makers is unbeatable - you can make a single cup any time without any mess. But the Keurig coffeemakers and pods are expensive and you are restricted to whatever coffee or tea is available in the K-cup format and once in a while, if you want to use a different coffee or tea, which is not available as a K cup, you cannot do that. Compared to the original Keurig coffee maker, this Hamilton Beach singleserve coffee maker is less expensive and gives you the option of using your own coffee grounds or tea. The larger drip tray can be removed, if you want to use a bigger mug.

Compared to Keurig K-cup coffee maker, this is compact, less expensive, and gives you the flexibility of using your own coffee grounds.

Love this coffee maker. Well designed piece functions well for both single cup and ground coffee. Very easy to clean. Can use either cup or travel mug. Highly recommended.

Economical and Space-saving

Join the single-serve community without paying an "arm and a leg" for the brewer OR the coffee pods. I was late to this community due to budget realities; couldn't afford the initial brewer OR the on-going coffee pod purchases. Yes this is an option to participate in the single-serve community due to its FlexBrew options. Use your own coffee, treat yourself when your budget allows buying the K-cups. It doesn't chew up precious counter space either!

You have a cup OR travel mug option, can store the coffee basket within the appliance too. I really like the all the options, flexibility and the savings. I gave up the big name coffee drive-thru trends and long lines for a relaxing caffeine hit at home while making another to go cup without going broke.

Love it use it all the time.

There are all kinds of single serve coffee machines out there now. This one is nice as it takes up a relatively small amount of counter space (which I have a small kitchen so this is important to me). This one will brew a K-cup or regular coffee. I think this might be the appeal of this machine is the fact that you can do both. Also, it is fairly easy to use. You can set it for regular coffee or bold coffee (a bit more robust). There is also some varying of the amount of water you can put in. The max is 10 ounces with a K-Cup. Maximum amount of ground coffee that can be used is 3 tablespoons and of course depends on how strong you like your coffee. Ground coffee is of course cheaper than the Kcups. It is pretty easy to clean. I have watched a couple of YouTube videos on this machine and the general consensus is that it is a decent coffee maker. Personally, I like a French Press the best and so I often forego the coffee maker for the press, but I know that this unfiltered type of coffee is not supposed to be as good for you as the filtered kind (which this machine has a permanent filter to use. I have a different brand that I have in my office and it has similar features but again, it is a larger machine and I like the size of this one. I would say this is a decent machine and Hamilton Beach is a brand that has been around for a lot of years.
