This is the first set of mower blades (buy two) I've installed on a used Craftsman riding mower I bought 2 years ago. There were new blades installed when I got it but they've been beat up bad from sticks and rough terrain These seem to be good quality blades for a reasonable cost - we'll see how they hold up compared to my previous set. Only thing I'd recommend to the seller is to include information on the stickers that cover most of the blades to install label side up. Without the old blades for reference that had "grass side" stamped on the metal surfaces, I would have had a tougher time figuring which way was up. Make sure you have a utility knife handy to cut off the rigid plastic shrink wrap over the blade edges.

Just cut the grass. Seems to be doing it's job. No complaints here. I've included some pictures comparing my old blades and these replacements.

Listen to what other reviewers are saying.
-Buy 2 if you plan to change out both blades.
- Sticker side towards the mower when fully mounted.

I live in the hills of rocky New England, on a slope hiding monstrous blade-eating rocks just waiting to claim mower blades. When my expensive Home Depot blade got mugged and was bent almost 90 degrees, I ordered a replacement from this company for close to four times less, and it arrived quickly. First time out and %&$#! A rock nailed it good and wouldn't you know? The blade survived and spins on into the future. I really have to get off my rear and scout this property more often. Ahem. The blade is very effective and well worth the money. I'm going to be ordering replacements very soon, to keep handy. This is simply one of the best low-priced deals on the net!

So entering my13th year my mower was hesitating and slipping especially when it was wet so I decided to take a big gamble and follow the instruction book for removing the deck. I had read the manual before(Really I did!) at thought it was just too complex to remove the lower mower deck but then I went ahead and did it. Wow!it was easy and I found all kinds of embedded garbage and worn belts and pulleys. Also found a plastic pulley (really Sears a plastic pulley?) anyway ordered replacements from Amazon at about half the price or even less than Sears (AKA K-Mart) wanted to charge from three different Amazon vendors. Anyway I removed all the old stuff and lo and behold all the new stuff actually fit. Now that's got to be a miracle in its self. How many times does mail ordered stuff fit anyway? Now I had to reassemble it back. Well about 8 funny shaped cotter type pins later it was all where it was supposed to be and oh by the way I cleaned the deck and replaced blades while it was off. Pulleys, blades, belts (2) and an filter and oil change and it just purrs around the yard so instead of forking out $999.99 in the off season I fixed it all for about $80 bucks. That's a lot of road kill I get to skip... saving about $900 excuse me but Amazon is pestering me to write about four more reviews for stuff I bought so you'll see this review about four places on Amazon because I ordered all those parts so why not. Go ahead and do it, it was easy.

After careful consideration of the Craftsman website and other blade retail websites and local stores (lowes, homedepot, blademan etc) I found that had the best non-Craftsman brand blade for the money. Instead of paying 35-55 dollars I paid 7 for each blade. At lowes the prices start at 35 and that's for a non mulching blade. I need the mulching feature because it provides the lift to suck the leaves off my lawn and blow them through the tube to my leaf catcher. I don't actually mulch most of the leaves because I have so many. These appear to be perfect OEM replacement blades for my mower.

These blades lasted almost exactly one year. I just checked them and the ends of the blades are almost gone now. Well worth the cost. Just bought two more to replace and for 1/4 the cost of the original blades that last just as long??? I'll continue to buy a set a year.

This blade does it's job. A lawnmower blade is made of high quality, hardened steel, or else it would bend disastrously within a short time, after hitting even a medium sized wood branch. So any blade has to be high quality to meet basic requirements, and this product is fine. When you sharpen your blades, be sure to balance them. I lay mine on top of a knife blade that is in a vise, and make sure when the knife blade is centered on the mower blade mounting hole, it is in balance. Take a little bit of steel off in the sharp blade area on the heavy end until it is balanced. If you don't balance it, the unbalance force will beat up the lower bearing in your blade spindle, and you will have to replace the entire spindle, which includes an upper and lower bearing.

The blades arrived promptly and were well packaged. They were not sharp, and thus left a fairly uneven, ragged looking cut. Worse, the second time I mowed with them, I ran over a tree root and bent one blade so bad it could no longer be used. I can't say if another maker's blade would have done better, but I do believe that if it had been sharpened it would have cut through the root instead of self-destructed.

Regardless of the manufacturer, I would recommend that you sharpen the blade before putting it on your mower.

I paid $20 for a set of blades to include S&H. They were on my doorstep within 5 days, which is very quick for rural ND. Installation was quite simple and busted knuckle free. I drove the mower halfway up ATV ramps attached to the tailgate of my pickup. In less then 10 minutes I was mowing. They cut the grass very nicely and I could mow much faster than before. Nice clean cut! I have 2.5 acres to mow (every 10 days this year) and I am currently conducting a side by side trial with oregon gator mulcher blades on my john deere. We will see if the expensive blades are worth the money.

*Update* 13 July 2011.

After two mowings, the cheap rotary max blades work just as well if not better than the expensive oregon gator mulcher 3in1 fusion blades. The rotary max seem to cause less damage to the grass. Cost comparison = rotary max $20 with S&H. Oregon gator $40 with free shipping. We will see if the oregon gators last twice as long.

This second time I've used Maxpower on my 42" 22HP Craftsman Rider but this time only needed one blade I damaged with landscaping stone while mowing last Fall. Heavy duty grade metal, well balanced holds up well on mower. ( Note: I takeoff blade off mower and put a sharp edge with grinder and rebalance it every year and only replace it if it's damaged,,,

Yes , this is great .
Its all I will be using for my Poulan.
I do some extreme cutting here in Maine countryside and they hold up well.
Quick ship and priced right.
Plus no travel to town for the dealer to be out !!
Perfect fit. Bolt right on.
