This wireless router provided an immediate boost in signal strength and connection speed.
It replaced an older D-Link wireless router and the speed increase is immediately noticeable.
The controls for the router are very easy to access. It has a feature to throttle back the range, which reduces the number of my neighbors who can see my network.
It provided multiple hard-wired cable connections in addition to the multi-channel wireless capability.
I am very happy with this product.

I'm on my second unit after the first one had range issues. When I replaced my old G-band router I expected to get better (or at least the same) range with the DIR-655. Unfortunately that was not the case, as my range was effectively cut in half. I made several calls to D-Link and they stepped me through some configuration changes, which did not help. After 3 calls, they told me to return it to Amazon and request a new one. Amazon's exchange policy was quick and painless. With the new router I have the same range as my old G-band model, but the speed is quite a bit better. After setting up the new one, I noticed that it was hardware version A4 as opposed to the first one, which was A2. With all that being said, if you get an A2 model and have issues, you may need to exchange to get a later hardware revision.

As far as the router goes, the setup was ridiculously easy and so far the performance and reliability have been fine. Plenty of features in the firmware to tweak. I haven't messed with the USB port yet, but other reviewers have some complaints on that one. Right now I'll call this a decent router for the price.

I've been using my refurbished DIR-655 for a week now and haven't experience any problems. It came with the router, antennas, power adapter, Cat5 cable, and the install CD, but no printed guides or info. This router was revision A4. Signal strength is pretty good, maybe 75%, from across my entire house (120' max). Basic setup was very fast and simple. I've tried using the USB on the back of the router to attach a portable hard drive to my network, and while it does work, it takes a long time to open files (took about 30 seconds just to see the contents of a folder), and when I turn on and off computers in my house, the connection to the hard drive gets dropped. I'm not intending on using this feature much, but I wanted to see how it worked. Overall, I'm glad I bought this refurbished unit since its been working flawlessly and is inexpensive.

I've had this one installed and running for about a week now. I had no problems configuring it, no problems at all so far. The unit that I got was actualy a RevB model and I did have to update the firmware, that all went smooooothly. I have 2 other DIR-655 running for a few years now, Have had problems with only 1 that crashed. This is my first refurb Wireless router and my previous experience with refurbs is that if they work from the get go, there probably going to work for a while. Only one disclamier I'm only using this one as a Wireless entry point, and for the GB hub, a Direct TV unit and a TV Monitor are connected to my network. I also use it as wireless to download and back up my Cell phones to and from the Cloud at night while there charging.

This refurbished product was delivered promptly and in like new condition. I had read reviews regarding the bright blue LEDs, but I was still surprised when I plugged it in at just how bright they are. My goal was to use the DIR-655 as a wireless N access point and gigabit Ethernet hub. There are instructions on the web for configuring this router as an access point, which worked well for me. I have a wireless G router (Linksys WRT54GL), which is located on the second floor of my house. Therefore, I have the DIR-655 configured for wireless N only. It resides in my basement and I have both a media center PC and Roku HD hooked up to the ethernet ports. My laptop computers with wireless N cards are consistently reporting speeds of 270 mps. I am very happy with the product and the installation.

I got this based on a friend's recommendation. I wanted some QoS capabilities and, while limited, this does what I need it to do. For an inexpensive router, the QoS is fairly robust. I had tried a NetGear prior to this, but the wireless connections kept dropping. This router is in the same physical location, but I don't have any problems with dropped connections.

The only thing I would like to see with this (which I've seen on several other routers) is a (semi)realtime utilization graph. There are times I'd like to see just how much bandwidth my household is using. For the price, I'm happy with how it works.

We have 4 PC's, 2 DTV boxes and 1 XBox. All depend on the router. I replaced my old Netgear router with this one. It has not failed me yet. Works great and was much faster than my previous router. Example, on a download site that is slower to download anyways, my download average on the old router was 30 - 50 kbps. A great download would be 100. I went to a similar download area with this new router and it reached 300 kbps. For our area, it is very good. Our home is 2 stories and the wireless upstairs works as well as the wireless downstairs. The router is stored under the stairs in the closet.

I wanted a router to use when we travel in locations that still do not have wireless connections in unit. We own at Wyndham vacation resort and some of their locations have only an ethernet connection for one computer. This router allows both my husband and I to use our computers at any location in the condo. The first time I used it I had to restart it a couple of times to get both my husband and my computer on the network. I didn't have to use the online instructions to change the setup but at first I was afraid I would have to do that. The end result worked fine.

Bottom Line: This unit is a refurb and was easy to install and set up. Price to value ratio is very good.

My old router took a power hit and was replaced with a D-Link dir-615. I quickly discovered that it wasn't going to work in my environment (2-story single family house). The 615's wireless connection was flaky and largely unusable for streaming (netflix) video. I had a horrible time synching the wireless printer because the wireless connection continually appeared to go up and down. (note - the unit had the latest firmware).

The dir-655, came up and was working within minutes. A quick firmware update was performed with no issue (had to re-input admin passwd and ssid info; no big deal). The printer and all pc's in the house connected without issue. Streaming video is uninterrupted.

While I'm proficient with computers, setting up networks isn't something I find enjoyable. I purchased this as a recertified product on Amazon and have been very pleased with the results. It was easy to setup, has excellent range (easily at half strength or better 50 feet away with the signal travelling through multiple walls) and provides wireless speed equal to my cable internet wired connection. This was an upgrade for me over an older model of Linksys router which could not provide adequate range. The DIR 655 has been excellent, I'd recommend it for anyone looking for a solid reliable router. I've had good experiences with D Link routers in the past and this one continues that trend.
